Mayfields

Discography:
Mayfields album cover Everything You Need Is In Paul's Yard

With a name like the Mayfields, you better be ready to get the funk out. Although varying in approach from the original Soulfly, the Westminster-based band's second release, Everything You Need Is In Paul's Yard, gets funky in its own right. Baltimore would be well served with The Mayfields as their poster boys for the city's live rock scene, as they provide a nice antidote to the rap-metal acts that currently populate the city's radio landscape. No face paint here. No serial killer pseudonyms either. And certainly no piercings of their unmentionables. Just straight-ahead, working man's rock and roll replete with tight harmonies, groovy jams, and hooks as big as the Inner Harbour. Singer-guitarist Garth Brady has his chops down, and as a songwriter has clearly taken notes from influences ranging from the early punk of the Ramones to the fuzz of Matthew Sweet without forgetting to add a little down home Southern boogie for good measure. From "Tuesday", a two-minute power pop raver to the swirling dreaminess of "Better Than Me," the Mayfields deliver the funk the way a rock band should. Dan
